| (1) | Where, in the course of an investigation of an aircraft accident or aircraft incident, the Aviation Safety Investigation Board considers it necessary that a public inquiry be made into the aircraft accident or aircraft incident, the Chairperson may designate a person or persons, who may be, or may include, the Chairperson, to conduct a public inquiry into that aircraft accident or aircraft incident in accordance with any rules made under section 31 and to report to the Aviation Safety Investigation Board thereon. |
| (2) | Any person designated to conduct a public inquiry under this section has and may exercise the powers of a person appointed as an investigator, subject to any restrictions specified in the designation. |
