121.03.11 Training, checking, certification and validity periods

 

(1) An air service operator shall provide checks including an inflight proficiency line check or demonstration of competency as prescribed in Document SA CATS 121.

 

(2) The issuance of any certificate or other means of certifying competency shall be as prescribed in Document SA-CATS 121.

 

(3) The following training, checking, or demonstration of competency validity periods shall apply:
(a) for flight crew members—
(i) training shall be valid to the first day of the thirteenth month following the month in which such training took place;
(ii) except as provided in subparagraph (iv), a pilot proficiency check is valid to the first day of the seventh month following the month in which a pilot proficiency check took place: provided that any two pilot proficiency checks that are similar in nature and occur within four months of each other shall not satisfy this requirement;
(iv) where an air service operator is approved to conduct an advanced qualification training programme on specific aeroplane types, such approvals allow for pilot proficiency check on those types to be valid to the first day of the thirteenth month following the month in which such pilot proficiency check took place; and
(v) a line check is valid until the first day of the thirteenth month following the month in which a line check took place.
(b) for cabin crew members—
(i) training shall be valid to the first day of the thirteenth month following the month in which such training took place;
(ii) examinations and competency checks are valid to the first day of the thirteenth month following the month in which such examination or check took place; and
(iii) an inflight proficiency line check shall be valid for a period of 12 months.
(c) for persons other than flight or cabin crew members—
(i) for a flight operations officer, training and checks are valid to the first day of the thirteenth month following the month such training or demonstration of competency took place; and
(ii) for all others, training and checks are valid to the first day of the twenty-fifth month following the month such training, check or demonstration of competency took place.
