| (1) | A competency of a holder of a pilot certificate for a hang-glider or paraglider shall be maintained if, within 24 months from the date of issuance of such certificate or the date of the last competency check, such holder has— |
| (a) | completed not less than 5 flights or 5 hours as a PIC, of which not less than 2 flights or two hours shall have been in the last 10 days; |
| (b) | completed not less than 40 flights or 10 hours on tandem gliders of which not less than 2 flights shall have been in the last 10 days; or |
| (c) | passed a competency check as prescribed in Document SA-CATS 106. |
| (2) | A holder of a hang-glider or paraglider pilot certificate who has completed at least 3 hours annually for a consecutive period of 60 months as a PIC of hang-glider or paraglider, as the case may be, shall be deemed competent. |
| (3) | The provisions of subregulation (1) shall not apply to a holder of a hang-glider or paraglider pilot certificate who is deemed competent in terms of subregulation (2). |
| (4) | A holder of a pilot certificate issued in terms of this Part who has not flown for a period of 60 months or more, shall be required to pass a relevant theoretical knowledge examinations and relevant competency check as prescribed in Document SA-CATS 106 in order to maintain competency. |
