15. Family Responsibility Leave

 

(1) This clause applies to an employee who has been in employment with an employer for longer than two months; and who works for at least three days a week for that employer.

 

(2) An employer must grant an employee, during each annual leave circle, at the request of the employee, seven day"s paid leave, which the employee is entitled to take—
(a) when the employee"s child is born;
(b) when the employee"s child is sick;
(c) in the event of the death of an immediate family member only.

 

(3)

(i) Before paying an employee leave in terms of this clause, an employer may require reasonable proof of the event contemplated above
(ii) An employee"s unused entitlement to leave in terms of this clause lapses at the end of the annual leave circle in which it accrues.

 

(4) Training leave– A duly elected shop steward shall be granted seven days" paid leave for shop steward training purposes on a once-off basis. Thereafter a further three days" paid leave per annum shall be granted for additional shop steward training. Such leave shall be arranged between the employer and the employee and shall be requested in writing.

 

(5) Paternity leave– an employer shall grant a male employee, during each annual leave cycle, at the request of the employee, seven days paid leave, which the employee is entitled to take when the employee"s child is born.
