Part 3 : Certification requirements

Division 1 : Deck officer certificates

30A. Endorsement as master of a ship of less than 3 000GT on unlimited voyages

 

A candidate for the endorsement as master of a ship of less than 3 000GT on unlimited voyages shall have—

(a) completed—
(i) at least 36 months approved sea service as officer in charge of a navigational watch on ships of 500GT or more on unlimited voyages while holding, as a minimum, a certificate of competency as deck officer; or
(ii) at least 12 months approved sea service as chief mate of a ship of 500GT or more on unlimited voyages while holding, as a minimum, a certificate of competency, or an endorsement, as chief mate;
(b) passed the theoretical examination contemplated in regulation 32(b) at an accredited institution and have successfully completed training; and
(c) been assessed at level 3.
