Chapter II : Success or Failure in Examination

10. Examination for a Licence as a Compass Adjuster (Unrestricted)

 

(1) The examination for a licence as a Compass Adjuster (Unrestricted) is divided into three parts, namely written, oral and practical, to be conducted in that order.

 

(2) To secure a pass in the written part of the examination, a candidate shall be required to obtain 70% of the total marks allocated to each of two written papers.

 

(3) The oral part of the examination shall follow the written part and shall be conducted by the examiner at a time to be determined by him. The candidate shall satisfy the examiner that he has a full knowledge of the syllabus pertaining to the oral part of the examination.

 

(4)
(i) In the practical part of the examination, the candidate shall demonstrate his ability to adjust a ship's compass to the satisfaction of the examiner. Such compass shall be the standard magnetic compass of a ship approved by the examiner prior to the demonstration.
(ii) Only those candidates who have passed both the written and oral parts of the examination will be eligible for the practical part of the examination.
