| (1) | The date of application for registration as a GI shall be regarded as the date upon which the Executive Officer receives the application. |
| (2) | The first application for the registration of a GI received by the Executive Officer shall have priority over any subsequent application for registration of an identical GI— |
| (a) | in respect of the same agricultural product; and |
| (b) | having the same or similar geographical origin. |
