An adult designated in terms of section 137(2) of the Act to supervise a recognised child-headed household must, subject to the provisions of section 137(6) of the Act—
| (a) |
facilitate psychological, social and emotional support to all members of that household when required; |
| (b) |
ensure that all members of that household who are by law required to attend school or who are required to attend an appropriate education programme, do so; |
| (c) |
assist with the supervision of homework of members of that household; |
| (d) |
educate the members of that household with regard to basic health and hygiene and, if possible, sexually transmitted infections depending on the age and maturity of the child; |
| (e) |
assist with the health care requirements of any member of that household, including the supervision of the taking of medicine and assistance to members with disabilities and ensuring that the children access health care facilities and that their health needs are met; |
| (f) |
assist the members of that household with legal documentation when required; |
| (g) |
compile a roster indicating the responsibility of various members of that household in relation to domestic chores in consultation with the members of the household to prepare children for |
| (i) |
in consultation with a social worker or a social service professional, attempt to reconnect the members of the household with their parents or relatives and supervise contact between the children and relatives or parents where it is deemed appropriate by the social worker or social service professional; |
| (j) |
engage the members of that household in issues that affect the household; |
| (k) |
ensure proper provision of resources due to that household, if any, in terms of section 137(5)(a) of the Act for that household's basic needs; |
| (l) |
ensure, subject to paragraph (j), proper utilisation of available resources and adherence to a financial budget; |
| (m) |
keep record of all expenditure of that household; |
| (n) |
utilise available and applicable child protection services to ensure the safety and well-being of the members of that household if and when required; |
| (o) |
assist the member heading that household with his or her responsibilities; |
| (p) |
be available to a child when the child requires services after hours; |
| (q) |
report incidents of abuse to the relevant authority in a form identical to Form 22; and |
| (r) |
report any death within that household to a police official and to the provincial head of social development. |
