I, Tshililo Michael Masutha, Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, acting under section 4(1) read with Regulation 3(3) of the Use of Official Languages Act, 2012 (Act No. 12 of 2012), hereby publish the Language Policy for the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development as set out in the accompanying Schedule for public information. This Language Policy excludes the language usage in court proceedings which will be addressed through separate legislation.

It is further made known that this Policy will be implemented incrementally with effect from 1 August 2019 taking into consideration the resource implications arising therefrom.

Inquiries regarding this policy and its implementation may be made at the Department's national office, its regional office in each province or at the nearest Magistrate's Court.
