Cattle may move to a registered abattoir for slaughter on the following conditions:

(1) Application for movement may be made only for clinically healthy cattle, which must be confirmed through certification of clinical inspection of the cattle on the day of movement by a private veterinarian and this health certificate must be presented to the state veterinarian responsible for the area of the farm or premises or land of origin.

(2) Application may be made only for slaughter at an abattoir with a valid registration in compliance with the Meat Safety Act 2000 (Act no 40 of 2000) and the Red Meat Regulations proclaimed in terms of Section 8 of the Meat Safety Act 2000 (Act no 40 of 2000) as amended.

(3) If satisfied with the private veterinary certification of the clinically healthy status of the cattle, the state veterinarian responsible for the area of the farm or premises of land of origin will issue a red cross permit to accompany the cattle to the abattoir and attach a copy of the health certificate issued by the private veterinarian as confirmation that the animals are free from clinical signs of foot and mouth disease on the day of movement.

(4) The movement must be directly from the farm to the registered abattoir, with no stopping en route for any purpose of any period of time.
