I, Barend Leendert Geldenhuys, Deputy Minister of National Health, acting on behalf and by direction of the Minister of National Health—

1)	do hereby determine in terms of subsection (5)(a) of section 3A of the Hazardous Substances Act, 1973 (Act No. 15 of 1973), that the provisions of subsection (1) of that section shall not be applicable to any Group IV hazardous substance with a total activity of—

a)	4 000 becquerel or less; and

b)	more than 4000 becquerel but less than the maximum activity indicated in the Annexure hereto, where such Group IV hazardous substance forms part of a device indicated opposite to such maximum activity, except in the case where such device is manufactured in or imported into the Republic; and

hereby in terms of subsection (5)(b) of section 3A of the said Act exempt from the provisions of subsection (1) of that section any person or organisation and any person in the employ of such person or organisation, except a holder of an authority referred to in subsection (1) of that section, who transports a Group IV hazardous substance by rail, road or air for or on behalf of such holder.

3)	This notice shall come into operation on 1 March 1993.
