The Minister of Health has in terms of section 2(1)(a), read with section 2(3)(a), of the Hazardous Substances Act, 1973 (Act No. 15 of 1973), made the regulations in the Schedule hereto.

 

Definitions

 

1) In these regulations "the Act" means the Hazardous Substances Act, 1973 (Act No. 15 of 1973), and any expression to which a meaning has being assigned in the Act shall bear such meaning.

 

Hazardous Substances

 

2) Carbon tetrachloride is hereby declared to be a Group I Category A hazardous substance.

 

3) Carbon tetrachloride is hereby declared to be a prohibited substance subject to the following exemptions:
a) An importer, for the importation of carbon tetrachloride for sale or supply for mining or industrial purposes or for sale or supply to a bona fide laboratory, research institution or teaching institution; and
b) a manufacturer, for own manufacturing purposes, sale or supply of carbon tetrachloride for mining or industrial purposes or for sale or supply to a bona fide laboratory, research institution or teaching institution.

 

4) The importer or manufacturer referred to in section 3(a) and (b) shall adhere to the regulations regarding Group I Category A hazardous substances.
