| (1) |
If a member vacates his or her office, the resultant vacancy must be filled by nomination appointment or co-option in accordance with section 8. |
| (2) |
A member in accordance with subsection (1) serves for the unexpired term of office of the predecessor. |

| (3) |
Notwithstanding section 8(3), the Minister must in writing invite nominations to fill a vacancy contemplated in subsection (1) from— |
| (a) |
national organisations representing— |
| (iii) |
employees other than academic employees; |
| (iv) |
university principals; |
| (v) |
technikon principals; |
| (viii) |
organised business; and |
| (ix) |
organised labour; and |
| (b) |
research and science councils. |
