| (1) |
Assistance in the following forms may be provided in respect of general education: |
| (a) |
Payment of school fees, not exceeding an amount of R9 000,00 academic year; |
| (b) |
payment of a boarding allowance, not exceeding an amount of R20 000,00 academic year; |
| (c) |
payment of a school uniform allowance of R3 637,00 academic year; and |

| (d) |
payment of a transport allowance of R4 407,00 academic year despite the fact that a learner could not attend school the whole year due to COVID-19: Provided that any part of the allowance not used for attending school must be used for any education related expenses incurred by a learner. |

| (3) |
Assistance in respect of boarding may only be provided if— |
| (a) |
the beneficiary does not reside with his or her family; |
| (b) |
the beneficiary has to pay for boarding; and |
| (c) |
the beneficiary cannot attend the nearest school— |
| (i) |
due to the distance between the beneficiary's place of residence and the location of the school or unavailability of public transport directly from the beneficiary's place of residence to the school; or |
| (ii) |
because the nearest school is full or cannot accommodate the beneficiary due to his or her special needs. |

The assistance referred to in subregulation (1) may only be provided for a period not exceeding five years. |
