NCC Announces Recall of Hino 700 Series Trucks

Posted 10 June 2026 Written by Acts Online

Brought to you by SAnews: In terms of section 60 of the Consumer Protection Act, No. 68 of 2008, the National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued a product recall notice for 18 Hino 700 Series trucks imported and distributed by Toyota South Africa Motors (Pty) Ltd.

The recall affects specific Hino 700 Series models sold nationally through authorised Toyota dealerships between 10 September 2024 and 10 December 2024. According to the notification filed by the supplier, an inappropriate surface treatment process during the production of the fuel pump housing may cause cracks to develop under repeated high load, potentially resulting in a fuel leak.

To mitigate safety risks, affected owners are urged to contact their nearest authorised Toyota dealership to arrange for a free inspection and corrective repair. The remedy involves the installation of a newly designed fuel pump at no cost to the consumer. Queries regarding this recall can be directed to the NCC via email at [email protected].

What this means for you, your business, or your clients

  • For yourself: No direct individual obligations unless you personally own or operate one of the affected Hino 700 Series commercial vehicles, in which case you must contact an authorised Toyota dealership immediately to arrange a free replacement.
  • For your business: Fleet managers and logistics compliance officers must audit vehicle asset registers to identify if any Hino 700 Series trucks purchased between 10 September 2024 and 10 December 2024 are in operation, and schedule immediate repairs to mitigate operational and safety liabilities.
  • For your clients: Corporate advisors and legal counsel representing logistics, transport, or construction clients should advise them to review their fleet compliance records against the recall dates to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards and preserve insurance coverage.
