Under and by virtue of the powers vested in me by section 98(2) of the National Water Act, 1998 (Act No. 36 of 1998) read with section 78(1) of the Water Act, 1956 (Act No. 54 of 1956), and following a petition of the persons representing the majority of votes according to the latest voters list of who has voted in favor of the disestablishment, I, S Mchunu, in my capacity as Minister of Water and Sanitation, hereby disestablish the Hoeko Irrigation Board as in terms of section 78(1) of the Water Act, 1956 (Act No. 54 of 1956).

The Hoeko board has not held a meeting in any of the last twelve consecutive months and the board applied for its disestablishment.  The Breede-Olifants CMA confirms that the matters of the Hoeko Irrigation Board were properly wrapped up and there are no properties (movable or immovable) and liabilities (loans and contracts) to consider.  They are not operating or managing any government water works.

Following the disestablishment, a non-profit organisation will be established to protect and manage the infrastructure as well as to ensure that the necessary order is ensured alongside the irrigation system.
