The Minister of Health has, in consultation with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, in terms of section 61(1), read with section 40(c) of the Health Professions Act, 1974 (Act No. 56 of 1974), made the regulations in the Schedule.

 

SCHEDULE

 

1. Definitions

 

In this Schedule "the Act" means the Health Professions Act, 1974 (Act No. 56 of 1974), and any expression to which a meaning has been assigned in the Act shall bear such meaning.

 

2. Names that may not be used

 

No person who is not registered in terms of the Act as—

 

(a) an optometrist;

 

(b) a dispensing optician or

 

(c) [Regulation 2(c) deleted by section 2 of Notice No. 4499, GG50292, dated 15 March 2024]

 

may use that particular appellation or any derivatives thereof

 

3.        Repeal

 

The Regulations published under Government Notice No. R. 872 of 8 September 2000 are hereby repealed
