I, Stella N Sigcau, Minister of Public Works, under section 6(2) of the Construction Industry Development Board Act, 2000 (Act No. 38 of 2000) hereby determine the following criteria for nominations of persons as members to the Construction Industry Development Board.
| (1) | The nominees must be competent persons with leadership qualities and the ability to contribute to the strategic direction of the CIDB in the interest of construction industry development. |
| (2) | Nominees must possess expertise and knowledge, preferably relating to any of the following areas: |
| (a) | Construction; |
| (b) | Public and private sector clients of the construction industry; |
| (c) | Black economic empowerment and the emerging industry; |
| (d) | Labour/Industrial relations; |
| (e) | The built environment professions; |
| (f) | Education, training and research; |
| (g) | Project financing; |
| (h) | Construction Procurement; |
| (i) | Other related sectors (e.g. suppliers) |
Experience in finance, law, economics or information technology and the ability to network on a national or international basis will be an advantage.

Call for Nominations for persons to be appointed as members to the CIDB OF THE BOARD

In terms of the Construction Industry Development Board Act, 2000 (Act No. 38 of 2000) I, Stella N. Sigcau, the Minister of Public Works, hereby call for nominations for members of the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB).
Background
The CIDS will provide strategic leadership to the sustainable growth, development and transformation of the construction industry in South Africa, as contemplated in the Act. The CIDB will, amongst others, promote industry best practice, establish a register of projects and a register of contractors, and promote a code of conduct. Other functions include developing public sector capacity, promoting the participation of the emerging sector, developing a national research agenda, establishing a stakeholder forum, facilitating communication between construction industry stakeholders, developing and monitoring targets and performance indicators, promoting and monitoring economic activity within the construction industry, and reporting on the state of the industry.
The CIDB will meet at least 4 times per year and will be supported by a Chief Executive and staff.
Nominations for members of the Board
Nominees must be competent persons with leadership qualities and the ability to contribute to the strategic direction of the CIDB in the interests of construction industry development.
Nominees must possess expertise and knowledge, preferably relating to any of the following areas—
| (a) | Construction; |
| (b) | Public and private sector clients of the industry; |
| (c) | Black economic empowerment and the emerging industry; |
| (d) | Labour/Industrial relations; |
| (e) | Built environment professions; |
| (f) | Education, training and research; |
| (g) | Project financing; |
| (h) | Construction procurement; |
| (i) | Other related areas (e.g. suppliers). |
Experience in finance, law, economics, or information technology, and the ability to network on a national or international basis will be an advantage.
Each nomination must be in writing and must contain the following information-
| (a) | The name and address of the nominating person or organisation; |
| (b) | The name, address and identity number of the nominee; |
| (c) | A declaration by the nominee that he or she is qualified to serve on the CIDB in terms of section 6 of the Act; |
| (d) | Motivation for the appointment of the nominee to the CIDB (not exceeding one page) |
| (e) | A short curriculum vitae of the nominee (not exceeding two pages). |
In constituting the CIDB, due cognisance will be taken of the need for appointments to achieve a balance of expertise and knowledge of the construction industry, whilst broadly reflecting the race, gender and geographic composition of the Republic.
Nominations must be sent to : The Director-General, National Department of Public Works, Private Bag X65, Pretoria, 001 marked for the attention of Mr. J. Govender, Room A520.
