The purpose of the Protected Disclosures Act, 2000, is to provide procedures and to offer protection. The Act provides—
| • | procedures in terms of which any employee may disclose information relating to an offence or a malpractice in the workplace by his or her employer or fellow employees; and |
| • | protection for an employee, who has made a disclosure in accordance with the procedures provided for the by the Act, against any reprisals as a result of such a disclosure. |
| 1 | These guidelines are issued by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development in terms of section 10(4) of the Protected Disclosures Act, 2000 (Act No. 26 of 2000). They are aimed at providing employees, who wish to disclose certain information, with a short summary of the Act, but do not deal comprehensively with all the provisions of the Act. |
