28. Trade tests

 

1) Whenever in the opinion of a training board adequate provision has been made in the industry and area in respect of which it has been accredited, for a trade test to be undergone in any trade in accordance with standards recognised by the registrar and the training board concerned, that training board may, on the application of any person who has been trained as a trainee in terms of this Act or the Training of Artisans Act, 1951 (Act No. 38 of 1951), or any other person who has not passed a trade test as contemplated in section 13(2)(h) of this Act or section 16(2)(h) of the Apprenticeship Act, 1944 (Act No. 37 of 1944), but who satisfies the training board that he has undergone training or gained experience in the trade in question of a nature and for a period which reasonably concurs with the conditions of apprenticeship for the trade in question and in the opinion of the training board is adequate, and on payment by such person of the prescribed fee, admit him to a trade test in accordance with the said standards.

 

2) A trade test referred to in subsection (1) shall be undergone at such time and place as the training board concerned may determine.

 

3) If any such trade test is passed by the applicant, a certificate to that effect shall be issued to him by the registrar in collaboration with the training board concerned.
