The objects of the Act are to—
| (a) | enact the Convention into law as contemplated in section 231(4) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996; |
| (b) | ensure that the Republic complies with the Convention; |
| (c) | prohibit the use, stockpiling, production, development, acquisition and transfer of prohibited weapons; |
| (d) | provide for the reporting on the Republic's compliance with the Convention to Parliament, and to the Secretary General of the United Nations. |
