Chapter VII : Detention of Ships, Cargoes or Part Thereof

19. Service of Notice

 

(1) Subject to the provisions of subregulation (2) a Notice shall be served upon the master of the vessel in question by a duly authorised detention officer who shall exhibit the original Notice to such master and deliver a copy thereof to the master, and return the original Notice to the principal officer.

 

(2) If the master of the vessel in question refuses or fails to accept service of the Notice, or if for any other reason service of the Notice cannot be effected, the detention officer shall leave a copy of the Notice in a conspicuous place on such vessel, which action shall then be deemed to be proper service.
