Part XI : Slaughter of Poultry for Own Consumption and for Religious and Cultural Purposes

100. Slaughter of poultry, not in an abattoir, for indigenous religious or cultural purposes

 

 

1) A person who slaughters for indigenous religious or cultural purpose must-
a) obtain written permission thereto from the owner of the land where such slaughtering will take place: and
b) ensure that only healthy stock are slaughtered.

 

2) The parts of the slaughtered bird that are not utilised, must be regarded as condemned material and disposed of in accordance with applicable prescripts of Part Vlll of these regulations or according to health requirements of the relevant local authority.

 

3) Any other legal provisions regulating the keeping and slaughtering of poultry on land referred to in sub-regulation (1)(b), must be complied with in addition to the provisions of the Act and these Regulations.
