Any person who, without lawful authority, removes an inmate or allows him or her to leave the correctional centre, or place where such inmate is in custody, is guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to a fine, or in default of payment, to incarceration for a period not exceeding eight years or to incarceration without the option of a fine or both.
