An applicant for the validation of an area control (surveillance) rating shall, under the supervision of an air traffic service instructor (operational), have provided area control (surveillance) services, in conjunction with the area control services referred to in subpart 10, at the ATSU for which the rating validation is sought for at least 50 hours, 50 percent of which may be provided on a simulator which accurately simulates the environment pertaining to the position for which the validation is sought.
